Practicum Loan

When you borrow or renew documents at the Faculty of Education Resource Centre the due date is usually 14 days later. In order to avoid coming back on campus during your practicum we offer an extended loan period called the “Practicum loan”.

  1. The practicum loan is available at the Resource Centre’s circulation desk only and only for documents belonging to the Resource Centre
  2. Dates for the practicum loan will be announced during the session. No extended loan period will be available before this date.
  3. This extended loan period does not apply automatically, you must ask for it at the circulation desk.
  4. If you already have documents on your file and wish to keep these for your practicum as well, you must bring the documents to the Resource Centre and request the Practicum loan dates when renewing.
  5. The practicum loan is available for a variety of types of documents: books, videocassettes, CDs, DVDs, posters, kits, etc.
  6. We can’t do the practicum loan on a video if there is a booking, on a document if there is a hold or if you have more than $10 fines on your record.
  7. We ask 2 days to prepare the kits for the loan. You can reserve a kit 3 days in advance.
  8. Renewing by Internet: only books can be renewed on line.  All other items must be brought in the Resource Centre to be renewed at the circulation desk.
  9. Should you omit to request the practicum loan dates and forget to renew your books on line, you will be liable for all accumulated fees.  For a regular loan, fines are 50¢ per day, per book and $2 per day per videocassette or CD or DVD or accompanying document.

  • Renew in person, with the document in hand, at the circulation desk of the Resource Centre or;
  • Renew the loan by Internet

To renew the loan by Internet, go to http://www.biblio.uottawa.ca and pick the option "Renew documents" under the menu "How can I...". You may also go directly to your patron file . Please consult the FAQ for more details.

Educational kits, material on reserve and certain audio-visual documents cannot be renewed. Renewing loans is possible for other types of documents except if the document is late, if you have surpassed the maximum amount of fines ($ 10) or if another user has placed a hold on the document in question.

Documents can be returned to the circulation desk, in the drop box, or at Morisset Library. Preferably, reserve documents, posters and educational kits should be returned to the circulation desk. The return of educational kits is performed after the content of the kit has been verified. All multimedia equipment and mobile units must be returned to the Resource Centre's circulation desk during opening hours - they cannot be returned to another Library or left in the drop-box.

Hold

From the catalogue you may place a hold on a document that is already borrowed (except if you have fines exceeding $10). You can select the pickup location you prefer (such as LMX for the Resource Centre). You will then have five days to collect the document once it is returned by the original borrower. You can consult your patron file to know when the document has been returned. In certain circumstances, the Centre may cancel a hold for administrative reasons, such as for placing a book on reserve.
