Bio:
Dr. Stephen Jull's research explores issues concerning inclusion and special educational needs in what are typically called mainstream schools. More specifically, Dr. Jull explores ways of supporting students and teachers in identifying patterns of potentially concerning behaviours over time through methods of self-monitoring and feedback. Dr. Jull's work takes the position that behaviours are communicative. Patterns of behaviour – namely, disruptive behaviours in schools – are thus conceptualized as communicative of individual needs, and can be contextualized as indicative of the degree to which student's needs are met within the context of their learning.
While Dr. Jull's research emphasizes the utility of information/data at informing practice, his work retains a critical position regarding the use of behavioural data. Data regarding communication/behaviour is complex, and requires a sufficiently sensitive analysis in order to mediate human relations and learning contexts.
Dr. Jull's adopts a humanities approaching within his university teaching. Dr Jull's students explore issues regarding inclusion, equity, and human development via close readings of canonical texts, including works by Baudrillard Foucault, Freud, Kant, James, Nussbaum, Rousseau, and Zizek to cite a few.
