Groupe pour l'éducation en développement international(GEDI) International Development Education Group (IDEG)
          Mandate & Objectives

The International Development Education Group (IDEG) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa is an association of professors, graduate students, and associated experts who have had extensive experience as educational researchers, teachers, evaluators, and administrators in developing countries and/or in Canadian communities that are socio-economically marginalized. The principle mandate of the IDEG is to contribute to the enhancement of educational research and evaluation capacity in developing countries and communities and to provide assistance in applied educational research and evaluation projects.

  Accordingly, the specific objectives of the IDEG are:

  • to offer services in applied research and evaluation to international aid agencies and their host national partners working in the domains of formal and nonformal education;
  • to offer services in applied research and evaluation to Canadian governmental and nongovernmental organizations and to community groups working in the domains of formal and nonformal education;
  • to strengthen the role of stakeholder participation in educational research and evaluation;
  • to provide research and evaluation training for those working in the field of education in developing countries and communities;
  • to develop, in conjunction with institutional partners, a number of applied research projects oriented towards improving the education of marginalized social groups in developing countries and communities;
  • to enhance the connections between theory and practice in support of education for marginalized social groups in developing regions.
