Admission Requirements and
Application Package
Community-Based Native Teacher Education Program (Certificate)
- two-year program for groups of students (not available to individuals)
- combination of in-school work, distance education (fall/winter), and classes at a location of your choice (summer)
- there is no need to take courses in Ottawa
- instructors also teach in the on-campus program and have experience working with Natives
- course work consists of the on-campus teacher education courses, as well as any customized courses you may require
- students will qualify for an Ontario Qualification Record card
- upon proof of obtaining a degree, a Baccalaureate in Education from the University of Ottawa will be granted
- training and support for mentor teachers is provided
- support for student teachers is built into the program
Course Work
All courses are worth 3 credits and are 30 h in length. They are based on those given in the on-campus program.
Admission Requirements:
- Requirements for a Secondary School Graduation Diploma or standing the college considers equivalent
- Be of Native ancestry

Practice Teaching
12 weeks of practice teaching supervised by your coordinator and the faculty coordinator
