Avis Glaze
Ontario 's Education Commissioner and Senior Advisor to the Minister of Education
Dr. Avis Glaze is Ontario's Education Commissioner and Senior Advisor to the Minister of Education. She was the first Chief Student Achievement Officer of Ontario and founding CEO of The Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat.
Dr. Glaze has worked in rural and urban, and public and Catholic school districts. She has taught at all levels of the education system and has served as superintendent and director of education. She taught in faculties of education and has worked as a Researcher in the Ministry of Labour. She was sent to South Africa to assist with education reform and served as a member of the Ontario Royal Commission on Learning. Dr. Glaze is a prolific author and international speaker who has won numerous awards, including the Order of Ontario and a number of honorary doctorates, for her outstanding contribution to education. She is widely known as an innovative and results-oriented educational leader.
