The Faculty of Education Award for Excellence in Teaching

THE AWARD

The Faculty of Education Award for Excellence in Teaching was created in 2003 to recognize a professor for outstanding contributions to university teaching.

The award will be granted every year from 2003 to 2006 and once every two years afterwards and will alternate with the Faculty of Education award for excellence in research, given that appropriate candidates are nominated.

The Faculty of Education Award for Excellence in Teaching is $1,500 deposited in a research account under the name of the recipient. The award will be presented on the occasion of the Teaching Lecture given by the recipient.

CRITERIA

  1. Regular member of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Education (with tenure or on a tenure-track appointment) with at least five years of teaching experience at the University of Ottawa .
  2. Outstanding contributions to university teaching. This should not be narrowly defined and should not necessarily be limited to classroom teaching. Rather, contributions to all aspects of teaching should be considered, such as course design and curriculum development, development of new pedagogy, writing textbooks, development of co-operative education programs, development of continuing education programs, development of interdisciplinary programs, development of new techniques for student evaluation and testing, laboratory design and supervision, conduct of graduate seminars, supervision and guidance of thesis students, relevant community involvement, and other contributions.
  3. Very good course evaluations over the last three years (average no less than four).
  4. Consistency over time of the quality of teaching.
