The Canadian Award for Excellence in Educational Research of the Faculty of Education
THE AWARD
The Canadian Award for Excellence in Educational Research of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ottawa was created in 2003 to recognize annually one professor for outstanding contributions to university research in education.
The award is $1,500 and is presented on the occasion of a lecture given by the recipient.
CRITERIA
- Regular member of the teaching staff of a Canadian faculty of education (with tenure or on a tenure-track appointment).
- Contributions to research in education which have earned distinction for the researcher and his institution through creative scholarship.
- Published work which is widely recognized and which have been peer reviewed. This, along with research grants, will be a major part of the evidence documenting the candidate's contributions.
- Quality and consistency of research.
- Advancement of a field of expertise.
PROCEDURES
Nominations, from any member of a Canadian Faculty of Education or his or her own nomination, must be submitted by October 1 to the Dean of the Faculty of Education .

The Faculty of Education Award Committee is composed of:
- a representative of the deanship of the Faculty of Education
- two professors from the Faculty of Education
- a professor of the University of Ottawa from another faculty
The committee can request external evaluations of the candidates.
CONTENT OF THE NOMINATION
The candidate prepares a brief in support of his her nomination. The brief should present the main elements of the case. It should include the following elements:
- a one-page submission, prepared by the nominee , describing the area of research and how he or she has contributed to the field or discipline
- the curriculum vitae of the nominee
- important documents (or part of important documents)
- a letter of endorsement by the dean or associate dean of his or her faculty
- at least two letters from external assessors (from outside of his or her university) who confirm the importance of the member's contributions within his field and how the research work has influenced the discipline
