Registration Requirements
Some program courses require additional documents and fees to be sent along with your registration form and $100 deposit to the academic secretariat. Only applications which include all the required documents will be processed for registration.
ABQ Primary or Junior Division
You must provide proof of certificate of qualification in “good standing” with the Ontario College of Teachers.
ABQ Intermediate or Senior Division
Each division has specific requirements:
Include a second cheque or money order for $50 to cover file evaluation fees. It must be separate from the deposit cheque made to the order of University of Ottawa.
Provide an official transcript, bearing a seal of all university studies including proof of degree from a recognized degree granting institution, unless completed at the University of Ottawa.
Register for two courses (6 credits): the foundation course and the teachable option.
AQ Français, langue seconde (French as a Second Language)
Candidates registering for the AQ FSL must succeed in the french proficiency test. Candidates who have completed the BEd in French are exempted. A failure in this test will result in the cancellation of your registration. The test is written on campus.

Include a second cheque for this exam for $100.
AQ Part II
Include a statement of experience form (pdf), duly completed and signed by your school supervisory officer indicating at least one year of teaching experience or the equivalent (194 days of teaching).
Provide a proof of part I on certificate of qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers.
AQ Specialist
Include a statement of experience form (pdf), duly completed and signed by your school supervisory officer indicating at least 2 years of successful teaching experience, one of which too place in Ontario in the area of specialization sought.
Provide a proof of part II on certificate of qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers.
AQ Honour Specialist
Fulfill the academic requirements for this program.
Include a second cheque or money order for $50 to cover file evaluation fees. It must be separate from the deposit cheque made to the order of University of Ottawa.
Include a statement of experience form (pdf), duly completed and signed indicating two years of successful teaching one of which took place in Ontario in the area of specialization sought.
Include an official transcript, bearing a seal, of a recognized undergraduate degree showing successful completion of a minimum of 20 full courses (120 credits) and a concentration of a least 9 full courses (54 credits) in the subject specialty with at least a B (70 per cent) average. Courses obtained through a BEd cannot be used. Applicants who are currently studying or who have studied at the University of Ottawa do not need to submit a transcript
A copy of one of the following documents is also required:
- A certificate of qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers valid for the calendar year in which the registration takes place.
- A valid interim certificate of qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers.
Register for two courses (6 credits): the foundation course and the teachable option.
AQ Associate Teaching
Teachers enrolling in this qualification must complete the associate teacher agreement form (pdf).
This course is offered free of charge with the following conditions
- have two years of teaching experience (one year is equivalent to 194 days of teaching)
- obtain authorization from the principal or supervisory officer of a school to accept practice teachers
- be a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers
- agree to supervise two pre-service candidates as part of the course, without remuneration, during the fall or spring practicum of the on-going year
- agree to supervise two additional pre-service candidates, without remuneration, during the two years following successful completion of the program
Candidates who fail to comply with these requirements will be charged full tuition fees for this course.
