Lionel Desjarlais Biography

Lionel Desjarlais

Lionel Desjarlais has devoted most of his professional life and research activities to the University of Ottawa. This professor emeritus is still active with the Faculty of Education after serving as its founding dean from 1967 to 1977. He has always given teaching a human approach that has nurtured the Faculty of Education's growth and development. Therefore, the Faculty is now one of Canada 's most respected schools of teacher training and graduate studies in Education.

Lionel Desjarlais has never ceased his opus and, to this day, still promotes the University of Ottawa, Canada's university. In 1998 he reached his pinnacle of pedagogy and research with the writing of a detailed history of the Faculty of Education - a document rich with heritage for the generations to come. Recipient of an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa , this remarkable educator left an indelible mark on the landscape of this province, particularly in relation to Franco-Ontarian concerns. His compassion and dedication earned him the respect of all who crossed his path.

The Lionel-Desjarlais Society, established to insure financial support to the Faculty of Education, has been named in his honour.
