Research and Teaching Assistantships Intended for Scholarship Holding Students of the Faculty of Education

The admission scholarship of the University of Ottawa includes an amount for research and teaching assistantships guaranteed by the University.

This amount includes the following types of financial assistance: research and teaching assistantships from the Faculty of Education as well as from all other Faculties and Research Institutes of the University of Ottawa, and any other contract obtained through projects lead at the University of Ottawa.

To be eligible for this amount, the scholarship holder has to apply for the research and teaching assistantship positions offered on a regular basis throughout the whole year at the University. The research and teaching assistantships offered by the Faculty of Education are posted and sent by e-mail to all the graduate students of the Faculty.

The research and teaching assistantships are regulated by a collective agreement. The students are invited to consult it's Web page at http://www.cupe2626.ca/.

The student has to be available to work 10 hours per week and show that he/she has accepted the positions that were offered to him/her.

The amount guaranteed in research and teaching assistantships spreads throughout the whole year to allow the student to cumulate the amount. For example, if a student starts a program in September of a given year, the guaranteed amount has to be obtained between September of that year and the following September. Therefore, access to the funding could start at any time during that year.

The amount granted is guaranteed per year (for example, for a September admission, the year ends at the end of August of the following year). The amounts are not cumulative from year to year. The balance of one year cannot be carried over to the next year. It is the scholarship holder's responsibility to keep track of the worked hours and the amounts received. In the event where a student has not attained the maximum amount offered by the end of the year, he/she has to make an appointment by e-mail with the Vice-Dean Research to finalize his/her situation. The student also has to be able to show that he has applied to research/teaching assistantship positions if he/she did not get any position. The student has one month from the end of every year to do so (i.e. for a September 2008 admission, the student has to sort out his/her situation before October 1 st 2009).
